Headshots & Type

Members of the Actors Axiom community are entitled to discounted professional headshots.  Currently, (since the pandemic) IN-STUDIO headshots are not being shot in NYC, but are being taken 40 mile North of NYC in Greenwood Lake, NY 10925.  EXTERIOR headshots are shot in NYC (limited to 3 looks).

Absent relationships with the casting community the headshot is a primary and important tool for the actor.  It is a "first knock" on the door of the gatekeepers (casting directors) and serves as a constant reminder when following up and submitting to casting notices, all with the hope to accomplish the coveted event we call “the audition”. Unless you have an uncle in a very special position you cannot read (audition) for a network role without going through the casting director or casting associate. The headshot is a tool that accompanies that knock on that door. Understanding your “type” and having a diverse collection of professional headshots representative of the range of characters you can believably play is a necessity.

$300 for 2 looks (includes 2 retouched pics) $350 non community member      

$375 for 3 looks (includes 3 retouches) $425 non community member 

Retouching of additional or existing images - $45 per image  

$150  For HEADSHOT SELECTION SERVICE. This a discretionary service and is NOT always available. If you request this service, and time permits, we will personally spend the next few days  sorting all your pictures and selecting the most compelling shots for each look, narrowing down to just a few selections of each look (from hundreds) for you to make a final decision.

$575 ALL INCLUSIVE PACKAGE - Up to 6 looks. Included Free Selection Service (a $150 value) and 1 Free edit for each look.  BEST VALUE.  

Depending upon how many looks you shoot you could easily have 500 to 1000 photos to select from. This is a stressful undertaking that should be left to the professionals. You can always request all of the pictures we take. However, with this service we make the best selections by narrowing down with professional protography software  (by colors code and numeric stars) and cleverly layout the final shots side by side to assure diversity among all of the looks.  It is a common error to select the same pleasing expression for each look.  Our Selection Service avoids these obstacles and puts forth an objective professional opinoin about the multitude of looks so you walk away with a diverse and intersting headshot package.  

Most actors are not educated on the headshot process and often select pictures that may look nice, but are not interesting and compelling headshots. They often don’t understand how important headshot composition is: light inside the eyes, interesting shadows, contor and powerfully odd expressions.  All of this help accomplish the goal of getting the actor into the auditing room. Moreover, having family members and those close to you select your pictures is often a mistake. They may see you differently from the way casting directors see you, and brand you for certain roles.   The selection servie (or if you opt for the ALL INCLUSIVE PACKAGE), has tremendous value, not only in the final result, but in the time and stress you will exhaust trying to accomplish the selection task.  

EDITING: It is extremely rare that great headshots are straight our of camera (unedited).  I've yet to see one.  I would encourage you NOT to use or post headshots that have not been professionally edited.  While it is essential that your headshots look like you, it is also imperative that they POP, and make you look your best.  A variety of "subtle" editing principles are employed to make you look your best, on your best day.  Cropping/rotating, adding warmth, brighting the eyes, whitening the teeth, darkening shadows and lighenting key components of the face, like cheek bones, nose and lips, as well as removing blemishes are just a few of the simple editing techniques.  We want to assure the absolute best picture that is an honest and accurate representation of you.
